The order of things

Back a month or so ago, I ranted about my service electricians. They had stubbed out three pipes in the rear of the house and left them jacked at an odd angle in the open trench. It proceeded to rain the next day and since there is not one square foot of earth in Soulard not littered with brick, broken glass, and other detrius of life, the damn walls of the trench caved. Poof. The pipes were where they were going to be.

Honestly, it looked like crap. And there they were, out in the open, a small eyesore leaving the door open to thoughts of incompetence where people couldn't see: framing members, structural integrity, windows out of plumb, etc. Such a small but obtrusive thing wrecking my attention to detail everywhere else; places where I wielded the hammer, hit my thumbs, and cursed violently.

So, weeks pass, calls and messages are left, and it is fixed. The pic shows my efforts to add grace to what is simply a place for phone, cable tv, etc. to enter the house. This is what everything should feel like when we are done with it. Complete and proper.

Are we allowed the time to always attend to matters in this fashion? No, not really. But when we can, why don't we? And just think how happy those electrons will feel sliding up the pipe, slippping around a gentle curve, and plopping in our ears - yak yak yak.
