If it's in the dumpster it's good stuff

So, the project is at that point where every room is in play. You can't move piles of saved scrapings and tailings around hoping that you may be able to use that 1'4-1/2" by 16" strip of 3/4" plywood. And, even if you could use it, it likely located on the bottom of a pile of similiar wood pieces. I need the rooms to be fairly clear of debris and clean as I prime the walls and ceilings.
And to this point the fact that the house is now completely weathered-in and ready for interior painting, it is time to clean...well, house. Naturally, you get a dumpster. A 'roll-off' which is a large metal bin that gets dragged across the yard when they pick it up for haul off and makes really fun mud ruts from street to back door. I figured in my needs and since I am one of those really cool neighborly neighbors, a small alotment for other refuse from next door(s). I did not, however, plan for the trash/treasure factor.
Apparently, someone out there in Soulard needed/wanted a 1'4-1/2" by 16" strip of 3/4" plywood. And, all of the other pieces as well. Those old, worn motorcycle parts I have been hauling around for fifteen years? gone overnight. My neighbor Ed is in a similar situation with lack of storage as he completes his front building for rentals. So, out go the warped and mis-sized door slabs he had been holding on to. gone overnight. And so it goes.
So, tomorrow I call in for the roll-off for pick up. It is, for all intents and purposes, empty.
And isn't that kinda cool? I ached to toss the scraps knowing if I held them long enough I could put them to use. Ed also begrudgingly tossed the door blanks. And now they live on in, probably, another pile somewhere. And, after many years of slowly rotting away in a damp basement, they will find their way to the city dumpster. Or maybe someone got creative and made eclectic wainscoting out of them.
But for now, they are still out and about, and that feels kinda good. Here's a big hug for you planet earth.
