Taking people for granted

So, I'd like to say this is a Soulard thing. That the people of the island are unique and their hidden skills are profound. I guess, though, that this is a lesson of bigger proportions.
Tonight I rolled into the xxth annual Crawfish Boil party, fifth year or so in Soulard. A killer deal. $25 for charity causes and all you can swill and consume with the Soulard locals The Pedestrians to boot. Great food and great music too.
For me, seeing neighbors in a party mood, beer in hand, was a great treat. The polite barriers broken down and some real conversations and heart-felt words. Great stuff.
And then the fire came forth. I recognized a gent making room in front of the band. Dusk had fallen and the band started cranking on Ring of Fire. And there was the guy who comes in quiet, orders a coffee once in a while, then exits just as quietly. And now he's center stage, swinging fire balls from the end of chains, around his back, through his legs, syncronized and what not. Very surreal and enchanting. His face was a glow from the reflections and from his joy and passion pealing forth. Very cool.
So, I had not given him much thought previously. Why should I have? I mean come on! flames and fames in front of friends and neighbors??? please. Good stuff. His happiness was fun to watch. He was in his element. Free and flowing. I should be so lucky.
No, I do not promise to not take people for granted ever again. You serious? That's like saying I'll never get THAT drunk again. heh. yeah right. I am just thankful for being aware of the amazing all around me. Atleast today.
