This week brought major changes to the project and to my leadership approach. I have hired a new framing lead, Ed. With two full days complete, we have completed the floor system and raised two exterior walls - photo show to the right==>>
I have fired my prior framing contractor, though he is not aware of the fact yet. If he will call me back, I can close this loop hole. 55 days have expired since Bob Moore was contracted to frame (labor only) my house. He has been on-site two days, for a total of 12 hours. Our contract was for a 30 day build timeline. 29 days have expired since lumber had been delivered to the job site per his request. I consider this a fundamental breach of our contract. With an inconsistent line of communication and complete lack of follow through on his promises, I do not feel this is a workable situation.
Bob Moore and his crew did put in around 20 man-hours of work - my liberal estimation. Though, the work performed was deficient and in some cases negligent. The man is a framing contractor and he was using a four foot level to create a level floor system (30' x 30'). There was a hump in the joists he had installed measuring 1" rise/fall.
This brings me to the heart of the changes this week. I was told I needed to "grow a pair" - to clarify: a pair of balls. My relaxed and reasonable nature is not producing results, in fact it is creating an environment for being taken advantage of. Bob Moore has been advanced $7000. Yes, yes, yes - I know. He can not be trusted or depended upon for any work as evidenced by his own inaction and poor quality work. So fire him. That's easy. But what about the money advanced to him?
More on this later...
