With this spoon I shall move the world

I know what you're thinking, and you're right. That is one dirty spoon. Where has it been? Just what the heck has it been used for? And why is it in this blog? Let me 'splain...

Clint Eastwood used a spoon much like this to dig his way out of Alcatraz. I, on the other hand, used it to fix a leaky roof. When one does not have the professional tools, one needs to improvise and in most cases work much much harder to achieve the expected results. This is a lesson I had taken for granted when I was using tools supplied by employer at a previous job. But now, when it is my money and my company, buying an expensive or just taking the time to find specialized tools is a tough pill to swallow.

You have to learn to think long term when purchasing tools especially when it is the only practicable way to get the job done quickly and properly. Sure you can rent some tools, and I do, but sometimes taking a monetary step backwards helps you move ...two more steps backwards.

So, it will soon come time to do some serious digging/trenching at the Soulard job. Who wants to drive the backhoe? Or should I spend a few weeks with a shovel?

I have driven a forklift before, so I can probably do the backhoe. Did I ever tell you about driving the forklift?
