Feb. 22nd week

Well, a snowy, icy week curtailed play time on the prop. though time with my architect Kenny yielded some great work on the layout. Also meeting with the city folks went...well.

Lots of talk and planning with no action leaves me feeling anxious and less than completely fulfilled at this point. Though, I believe the more talk, planning, and collaboration before the hammers swing, the better the project will run: financially, workmanship, and timeliness for sure.

The more I uncover behind the walls, in the ceiling, and under the floors the more I am amazed. First off, how is this thing standing now much less how did it make it to this point from the early 1800's?! No load bearing headers, cantilevered joists, gapping holes in the brick foundation. Arg. Then again, 'cut' nails (the square kind) used in the earlier framing portions, hand cut joists and studs (variation of 2x4 widths from 3" to 4"+)...the amount of labor required to create the original structure is amazing. I wonder what they would think of our use today of pneumatic framing nailers able to shoot a 16 penny nail each second?

Yes, a boring post but to hell with you. Rock on, dean.

The bamboo floor in the closet is cool and all--to write on your "plans"--but let's get real and specify twelve-inch shag carpet. Call the "architect" now.
